Welcome to the WinterTurf project blog!

We are happy to announce that our WinterTurf group will be posting regular blog articles about our research on turfgrass winter stress and injury. The long-term goal of our project is to better understand turfgrass winter stresses and then identify solutions to this important problem. Our project team has educators and researchers from northern regions who are doing outreach and research in this area. Examples of topics in the blog we will be covering are:

  • Remote sensing to improve knowledge of winter stresses
  • Developing a winter injury prediction model and web application
  • Modeling climate change and its effects
  • Increasing understanding of physiological factors associated with winterkill
  • Developing improved integrated snow mold management strategies
  • Improving creeping bentgrass and perennial ryegrass germplasm for traits associated with superior winter hardiness
  • Developing best management practices for winter damage prevention and recovery
  • Determining economic impacts of winter stresses
  • Outreach efforts relating to the project

With this blog, we hope to inform and engage with turfgrass managers about turfgrass winter stress solutions!  To make sure you never miss our blog posts and other activities, you can follow #WinterTurf on Twitter, or follow our Twitter account @UMNTurf. You can also sign up for our WinterTurf newsletter
